Usage
「-という立場なので」because of one’s position/reputation; given that ~, one must ~ (formal / used when social pressure or expectations prevent acting otherwise)
Examples
親の反対を押し切って留学をした手前、必ず卒業帰ってくるつもりだ
Since I pushed through my parents’ opposition to study abroad, I intend to definitely graduate and come back.
友達の誘いを断った手前、他の人とそこにいくわけにはいかない
Having turned down my friend’s invitation, I can’t go there with someone else.
