用法
S plain form + ということだ is a reported speech expression when reporting what someone else said or what people in general say
例文
山田さんから電話がったのですが、約束の時間時少し遅れるということです。
Mr Yamada phoned, saying he would be a little bit late for the appointment.
近くにいたい人の話によると、トラックから急に荷物が落ちたということです。
According to the bystanders, the load suddenly fell off the truck.
ポイント
can also be in the form of とのことです ✍️
ということですね can be used when repeating what someone just has said in order to confirm it: はい、分かりました。３０分ほど遅れるということですね。Yes, I understand. You'll be about thirty minutes late, right?
